Stop trying to change the world!

I have been spending all week getting ready for our Kid’s Camp next week. I am really excited about our speaker this year, Jason Sowell. He has been one of my friends since 2000 when a group of us started a church in New Tampa, Florida. I have seen God work through him in middle and high school ministries and recently through an organization that he started call ENGAGE THE CURRENT. Through this non-profit organization I have learned what it means to really serve others with no strings attached.   I recently had the chance to be a part of a serving opportunity called “Laundry Love Project” in Canton, Ohio. laundry love

Here a group of volunteers provided detergent and quarters to everyone that came to wash their clothes at the local laundry mat, expecting nothing in return. They also read stories to the children, fed them and even hemmed their clothes all in love. I must say it was one of the coolest serving opportunities I have ever had.  Jason recently spoke at TEDx about how we should stop trying to change the world and change the simple things. Watch Jason and his TED talk below:

What adults can learn from kids.

I came across this TED talk: What can adults learn from kids. This is a 12 year old named Adora Svitak who at age 7 decide she was going to do something with her life. This video is super encouraging for us that work with children, at school, church or even having children of our own. Here are a couple quotes from the video below, but take a couple minutes to watch it and lets make a difference in the next generation.

“It’s imperative for you to create jobs for children, so that they can grow up to blow you away.” – Adora Svitak

“You must lend a ear today, because we are leaders of tomorrow.” – Adora Svitak
