One of the things I am learning is that to be like Christ you must remember that “it’s not about you.” Everything we do should be centered around Jesus. To become Great we must not only THINK but also ACT like Jesus.

Jesus served with humility!

According to the dictionary it says Humility is:  Having or showing a modest or low estimate of ones’ own importance. We see His demonstration of Humility in John 13 where He washes the feet of His disciples.  Until we humble our selves to Him we are just spinning the wheels of life and not going anywhere. Luke 22:27 says: For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. On this journey to greatness we must get over thoughts of what will people think? and what would they say? and not just obey but make His actions the desires of our heart.

On a journey to greatness: pt. 3

fix-cracks copy

What does it take to become GREAT?  It is a journey, a process, an action. It takes a lot of work BUT God desires for us to be Great. Matthew 5:48  says: “But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.”

The problem is nobody but God is perfect. Romans 3:10 says “There is none righteous, no, not one.” So it takes a lot of work for us sinners to get to where we are like Christ.  Each day we should move forward towards perfection. It takes us thinking and acting like Jesus. But what does that look like:

  • Jesus prayed about everything and worried about nothing
  • Jesus never became defensive, discouraged or depressed.
  • Jesus’ goal on earth was to please the Father, rather than achieve His own agenda.
  • In the midst of trials Jesus was patient.
  • In the midst of suffering Jesus was hopeful.
  • In the midst of blessing Jesus was humble.
  • In the midst of ridicule, abuse and hostility Jesus made no threats or sought revenge.
  • Jesus lived a perfect life. He was and is Holy.

To be GREAT we must live Philippians 5:1 having the same attitude that Christ Jesus had not only in the good times but the bad times as well. Does your attitude move you closer to greatness or does it move you further away?

On a journey to greatness: part 2

thrplaThis past Summer I asked a group of Elementary students on the Big Island of Hawaii one question: Do you want to be GREAT? Every one of them raised their hands saying yes! I want to be great I want to amount to something. Over the next few post I want to unlock what it takes to be come GREAT because our King is Great. You can read part one HERE.

The greatest commandment found in Matthew 22:37 says Love God with all your heart, soul and mind. What does it mean to love Him with your mind?

In Philippians 4:8 it says:

Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

To be great we have to have a God-honoring mind. To help the kids remember what to think about I created a gooey slime called THRPLA-EW (pronounced: Thurpla- ewwww) Thinking about such things all the time can be hard so if you can remember THRPLA-EW you should be able to recall at any given time.

God is Great and deserves GREATNESS from us as we follow Him and as we show others who he is through our actions. I created a demonstration of THRPLA that I used a few years back that can help you recall this ewwwwy gooey greatness call THRPLA.
